Convert STL to voxels
Turn an STL model from CAD or 3D printing into editable voxels in your browser, then paint it, edit it and save it as .vox.
How it works
Open the file
Open the editor and choose Main menu → Import 3D Model or Image…, or drop the file on the canvas.
Pick the size
Set the longest edge in voxels, up to 512. The voxels appear on the canvas as you move the slider, and a model bigger than the canvas grows it to fit.
Edit and save
Edit the voxels with every VoxiGen tool, then save as .vox for MagicaVoxel or as .vxb, free and without an account.
STL files
- STL defaults to Z-up, the usual setting in CAD and 3D printing, so models stand upright. Switch to Y-up if yours lies on its side.
- Most STL files carry no colour, so an STL imports in light grey.
- Recolour the result with the paint and fill tools.

Questions
Why is my STL grey?
Most STL files have no colour information, so the model imports in light grey. Paint it in the editor afterwards with the paint and fill tools.
Is the converter free?
Yes. Importing, editing and saving as .vox or .vxb are free and need no account. Exporting back to a mesh (GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL) comes with the one-time $29.99 Founder licence.
Can I get a .vox file for MagicaVoxel?
Yes, choose .vox in the Save dialog. A .vox file holds up to 256 voxels per side, so keep the longest edge at 256 or less, or save larger models as .vxb.
