Convert OBJ to voxels
Turn an OBJ model, with its .mtl and textures, into editable voxels in your browser, then save it as .vox for MagicaVoxel or keep building in VoxiGen.
How it works
Open the file
Open the editor and choose Main menu → Import 3D Model or Image…, or drop the file on the canvas.
Pick the size
Set the longest edge in voxels, up to 512. The voxels appear on the canvas as you move the slider, and a model bigger than the canvas grows it to fit.
Edit and save
Edit the voxels with every VoxiGen tool, then save as .vox for MagicaVoxel or as .vxb, free and without an account.
OBJ files
- Pick the .obj together with its .mtl and texture files, and their colours come through.
- A missing .mtl or texture is named in the dialog, and the model still imports without it.
- OBJ has no fixed up axis: choose Y-up (the default) or Z-up.

Questions
Do the OBJ's colours come through?
Yes, from its .mtl materials and textures when you pick them together with the .obj. Without them the model imports in a single colour.
Is the converter free?
Yes. Importing, editing and saving as .vox or .vxb are free and need no account. Exporting back to a mesh (GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL) comes with the one-time $29.99 Founder licence.
Can I get a .vox file for MagicaVoxel?
Yes, choose .vox in the Save dialog. A .vox file holds up to 256 voxels per side, so keep the longest edge at 256 or less, or save larger models as .vxb.
