THE GAME

Fast, loud, and made of blocks.

The Unmoored Cathedral’s ruins glowing violet under a starfield

Worlds like nowhere else

Lava halls, a cathedral pulled apart under the stars, a harbour town missing pieces of its sea. Every world has its own stone, its own light and its own invaders.

An invader coming down an icy street at the player

Shoot them apart

Limbs come off. A head shot ends it. When one dies, it breaks back into the blocks it was made of.

The ember gun’s bolts blowing an invader apart in a lava hall

Pick your weapon

A double-barrel for the close ones, an ember gun that throws bolts of fire, rockets for the ones in the air, and more you find along the way.

NEW IN 0.2.8

Smoother on lower-end machines

  • Distant rooms draw at about a third of the triangles they used to, with proper textures at every distance.
  • The gold and silver key doors look as they did at launch again.
  • Softer shading on pickups, the ember gun and the rocket launcher.

QUESTIONS

Before you play

Is VOXEN free?

The first four worlds and a bonus level are free, no account needed. The full game, with all thirteen worlds, will be paid.

What kind of game is VOXEN?

A fast, single-player first-person shooter in the spirit of the classics: keys and secrets, enemies that break back into the blocks they are made of, and a weapon for every kind of fight.

Which platforms is VOXEN on?

Windows, macOS and Linux. The VoxiGen Launcher installs VOXEN and keeps it up to date.

How was VOXEN made?

Every room, prop and creature was built in VoxiGen, a voxel editor that runs in the browser. VOXEN was made solo with AI assistance, then play-tested and tuned by hand. The same tools are there to build worlds of your own.

First launch on Windows

  1. If Edge says the file isn’t commonly downloaded, click the arrow beside Delete and choose Keep. Then double-click the file.
  2. If “Windows protected your PC” appears, click More info.
  3. Click Run anyway. Windows only asks the first time.

First launch on Linux

  1. Right-click the .AppImage you downloaded (the VoxiGen Launcher), open Properties and turn on Executable as Program (Is executable on KDE).
  2. Double-click it, or right-click it and choose Run as a Program. If a disk tool opens instead, close it — the file is not a disk image.
  3. If nothing opens, install FUSE once: sudo dnf install fuse fuse-libs on Fedora, sudo apt install libfuse2 on Ubuntu or Debian (libfuse2t64 on Ubuntu 24.04).

VOXEN comes from a one-person indie studio. Your computer asks once before it opens an app from a developer it doesn’t know yet.
